Charlie St. Cloud

I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of attending the Premiere of Charlie St. Cloud last Tuesday night, at the Village Theater in Westwood.  Before the film started, Gilles Marini told me that tissues would be needed, so I was happy that I had gone prepared with a purse full.  As it turned out, I didn’t need them.

Charlie St. Cloud is a romantic drama with a fantasy twist starring Zac Efron as the title character.  The story revolves around Charlie’s life as he struggles to deal with the tragic death of his younger brother, Sam.  I don’t want to give too much of the story away and spoil anyone, but honestly there isn’t too much to give away beyond what you’ve already seen in the previews.  The movie is very much your standard happiness, to grief, back to happiness premise, not that that’s a bad thing.  What isn’t so standard is that the film is visually stunning.  The sailing scenes make you feel like you’re within the film itself and that makes for a fun ride. If it’s available in IMAX, I’d definitely go that route to view it.

Personally, I found the film to be very enjoyable, for the most part, with some very touching, sweet, and even fun moments.  Speaking of the fun moments, I’ll give a little shout out to my favorite scene; think trash-can-lid-surfing to the Ramones version of California Sun. That’s all I’m going to say about that, but it sounds like fun doesn’t it?  Before I finish up, I want to give one more shout out to the performance by Augustus Prew who plays Charlie’s friend Alistair.  Every time he appeared on the screen brought a smile that was well appreciated by me.

So, all that to say, I recommend the film with ♥ ♥ ♥.

Thanks for stopping by to read my review.  Now, go out to see the film this weekend and come back to leave a comment with your own thoughts about it.

See ya next time!
